Last weekend I was out of bread. Not a huge deal with most families, but when your husband works nights, sleeps during the day and you have two little ones under foot, a quick trip to the grocery store sometimes seems just too much to bare.
For bread.
Out came the bread machine for homemade bread. After a quick wipe-down (it had been collecting some dust), the little man and I got to work. I love to make homemade bread by hand, but gosh you've also have to love the bread machine who does all the work.
PB&J's are a staple in our house, along with any other type of sandwich, so to be out of bread, is like being out of shampoo.
It's just not right.
Here is a simple and easy sandwich bread for you and your family.
Homestyle Honey Wheat Sandwich Bread
1 1/8 cups warm water
3 tablespoons honey
1/3 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups regular flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Add ingredients according to the manufacturer's directions to your bread machine. Use the wheat bread cycle and light color setting.
Three hours later I was eating this...
Half of an egg salad sandwich on our homemade bread and some chips. Simple, quick and tasty. After sandwiches, we used the rest of the loaf for cinnamon french toast the next morning.
Well, it's snowing here (ugh!) and I need to get moving. Have a great weekend everyone and send the sunshine my way (if you have it).
I haven't had an egg salad sandwich in soooo long. Miss them! I wish someone would make one for me - I hate peeling eggs.
ReplyDeleteI have a bread machine, but haven't used it in years. Maybe it's time to break it out, because this bread looks awesome!!
