Grilled Summer Party Bread

I love it when a recipe turns out.  You dream it up in your head, you buy the ingredients and then you taste.  And it tastes great.

This is exactly what happened tonight.

I created this recipe for the Saucy Mama's Sliced Contest.  Click here to see a list of all the bloggers involved.  The first round is appetizers {my favorite!}  If I make the cut I move on to a main dish and then eventually a dessert.  We were sent three of their flavored mustards and each round also requires a secret ingredient.

For the appetizer round, bacon was the secret ingredient {love!} and I opted to use their Creamy Garlic Mustard.  I mean, isn't garlic a requirement for toasty bread?  And doesn't bacon make everything better?

Yeah, I think so too.

This is the perfect party food to feed a crowd.  You cut slices down into the bread so that when after it is baked, it is easy to just pull off a part and dive in.  Think of it like our beloved monkey bread's long lost cousin, just in savory form.

And so garlicky, and cheesy, and crispy......and delicious.

You know I put a very informal poll out on Facebook this week simply asking "ketchup or mustard?"  The overwhelming winner was mustard!  You people love it!  I do too, all kinds, all flavors....

The Creamy Garlic one I used for this bread is phenomenal.  It is almost a cross between a creamy mayo/mustard.  I'm thinking it'd be might fine on a turkey sandwich {my next step!}.

Grilled Summer Party Bread
1 large loaf sourdough bread
4-5 large slices Gouda cheese
2 green onions, diced
3 strips of bacon, crumbled
3 T. Saucy Mama's Creamy Garlic Mustard
3 T. mayo
1 T. olive oil
2 T. melted butter

With a serrated knife, cut slits into the sourdough, criss-crossing, almost all the way down to the bottom of the bread, but not cutting through.

In a small bowl combine mayo, mustard, olive oil and green onions.  With a pastry brush, move apart pieces of bread and spread this mixture in between the slices.  Then break apart pieces of the cheese and slide them also between the slits in the bread and lastly sprinkle on the bacon and pour melted butter evenly over the top.

Wrap the bread in foil.  Place on a hot grill, over medium heat.  Let cook for 15 minutes.  After 15 minutes, open up the foil and continue to cook for another 10 minutes or until bread is golden and cheese is melted.

Serve hot and enjoy!

You know what else is pretty cool about Saucy Mama?  They are giving all my readers 25% off all purchases on their website.  To redeem this use the coupon code: ALL25.

Also, stay tuned next week when I'll be giving away three of their mustards {just like the ones I received} on my Facebook page.  You won't want to miss that!  Because then you can make this bread.

And then die in a state of utter bliss.

Lets hope this AMAZING appetizer takes me to round 2!

Wish me luck!

  1. I made something like this last summer but it got too done. The flavors were there but I was distracted and the top ended up burnt. This is such a great appetizer :)
