It's apparent I am now in love with my air fryer as my last two new recipes have been made in this wonderful gadget!
The kids are back in school now that the holidays are over {praise Jesus!} so I've had a bit more time to try different foods in my new air fryer.
Here is the model I have and love - currently as of this timestamp, it's 50% off. For our family of 5 it has worked really well.
Are you a sweet potato fan?
I will fully admit I didn't always like them. I didn't grow up eating them {wonder why, Mom?} so they were never a part of my diet.
After we got married I started cooking them, then especially once I had babies and they started eating solids I was often cooking and mashing them up as the kids loved them. Now, of course I soon found out that if you doctor them up super sweet with loads of brown sugar and chopped pecans and melty marshmallows {think the popular Thanksgiving side dish}, even anyone who claimed they don't like them would eat them.
But for the past few years I started roasting them and making them a bit more savory in the oven and we've really enjoyed them.
Since sweet potatoes are naturally...umm...sweet, I wanted to find a way to counter act that sweetness with some spice. Nothing overwhelming, just enough spice to make them INCREDIBLE.
I did it!
I found the perfect spice combination that makes them both sweet and spicy.
Almost all of these spices are found in your pantry {at least they should be}, but maybe one of them isn't. Have you ever had smoked paprika? It's the best. I use it on so many things. It tastes like regular paprika, but with a delicious smokey undertone.
I highly recommend grabbing $7 and purchasing this bottle to have in your pantry.
This recipe calls for one big sweet potato. Once cooked it easily feeds two adults {or one very hungry adult}. You can certainly double or triple the recipe if feeding more, it may just take two rounds in the air fryer.
In just 11 minutes you'll be devouring these babies!
I discovered that dipping these sweet and spicy nuggets in Dijon mustard is HEAVENLY. Like absolutely, the best. Give it a try if you have some in your fridge. A yummy homemade ranch would be good too - even traditional ketchup!
Plain jane they are great too, I found myself popping them into my mouth while plating my lunch. They have so much flavor.
I'd love for you to try these Sweet & Spicy Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes! They are a healthy, fun snack or side dish for the new year to get you back in gear after all those holiday goodies.
Serve them along side any grilled meats, plain for a snack or over a green leafy salad. Could you imagine a tangy Dijon mustard dressing over those greens? Yum! Tag me on social media {@sweetsavoryeats} if you make these.
I'll be sure to share the love!
Sweet & Spicy Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes
Yield: 2
Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 11 MinTotal time: 16 Min
Super crispy and full of flavor - these are my new favorite way to eat sweet potatoes! A handful of seasonings make the best combination.
Ingredients
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled & diced into 1 inch cubes
- 2 T olive oil
- 1 t sea salt
- 1 t garlic powder
- 1 t onion powder
- 1 t smoked paprika
- 1/4 t cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your Air Fryer to 390 degrees.
- Wash, peel and dice a large sweet potato into 1 inch cubes and place in a bowl.
- Drizzle in the olive oil and toss the sweet potatoes to coat evenly.
- Sprinkle in all the seasonings and toss the cubed potatoes to coat.
- Place the sweet potatoes in the air fryer and cook for 11 minutes or until crispy. If they need another minute, shake the basket and put them back in.
- Serve warm with a side of Dijon mustard.
Notes:
You can certainly add any seasonings to these sweet potatoes, but I've found this combination gives them just enough smokey heat to balance the sweet potato.
A side of Dijon mustard is the perfect dipping sauce! But certainly, other sauces such as ranch, ketchup or regular mustard is good too.
