One Hour Cinnamon Rolls

Yes you can make a tray of cinnamon rolls in just under one hour!
These are yummy and super easy to bake up.

Many years ago (2016 to be exact) I shared my one hour cinnamon rolls, well before most of you knew me! Every now and then I like to go back to old recipes - try them again to make sure they still work, take new photos and reintroduce them.

And that is exactly what I did with this recipe!

So many new people come around here and many of them never look back into the archives. This way I bring back the old ones, yet fancy up the photos a bit. Think of it like redecorating a room in your house. Everything needs a facelift.

I've been wanting to tackle my One Hour Cinnamon Rolls because it's just such a brilliant concept - many ask - how in the world do you make cinnamon rolls in just one hour? Well, I am here to tell you it can be done. Even without shortcuts and while still using yeast!

This recipe makes eight cinnamon rolls, but I've doubled it many times before for a crowd. Works out just the same. They are hearty, just slightly sweet and in my mind simple perfection.

Cinnamon rolls can be made a million different ways from the traditional version - my pumpkin cinnamon rolls are always a favorite in the Fall, my sheet pan cinnamon roll cake is a great brunch item and my cute Easter Bunny cinnamon rolls take over the internet around Easter.

Who doesn't love a good cinnamon roll?

This batch is perfect for simple weekend mornings, just scramble some eggs on the side and a delicious breakfast is served! Trust me, you're family will thank you.

Show me your photos soon! I love getting tagged on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) when people make my recipes. I'll do my best to re-share your creations.

One Hour Cinnamon Rolls

One Hour Cinnamon Rolls

Who knew you could bake cinnamon rolls from scratch in under an hour? These are delicious and easy to make.
Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 20 MinInactive time: 25 MinTotal time: 50 Min

Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Roll Dough
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup melted butter
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 3/4 cup flour
  • pinch of salt
For the Filling
  • 4 T melted butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 T cinnamon
For the Icing
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 T butter, softened
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/8 cup milk (pouring in a little at a time, you may not use it all)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a baking pan with cooking spray, big enough to hold eight cinnamon rolls.
  2. In a stand mixer combine the water, sugar, milk, butter, salt and yeast. Let this mixture stand for 15 minutes.
  3. Add in the egg, salt and flour and gently mix just until a dough forms. Let the dough sit and rest for 10 minutes.
  4. While your dough is resting combine your filling ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
  5. Roll the dough out on a floured surface, creating a large rectangle. Spread the filling mixture over the dough, spreading to the edges.
  6. Starting at one end, roll up the dough and using a serrated knife cut into 8 cinnamon rolls. Place them into the greased baking dish and slightly push down on them.
  7. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20 minutes or until they are slightly firm.
  8. In a bowl whisk together the icing ingredients. Spread the icing over the cinnamon rolls once they have cooled.
