Nothing beats a great slice of cheesy garlic bread next to a plate of pasta.
This version is the one I've been making for years.
Growing up my Mom served slices of garlic bread with a lot of our meals. I guess it was just her thing. Never anything too fancy, often leftover hamburger buns buttered and sprinkled with garlic salt or powder.
Once out of the house, I realized not everyone grew up the same way I did!
Apparently lots of bread at meals can be frowned upon - BUT, to this day I still enjoy serving it on special occasions.
Shortly after graduating college I came upon this amped up version of garlic bread and I've been making it ever since.
This version is HEAVENLY.
It is by no means healthy, let's just make that know right away. And up until last week I was making it on whatever old bread I found at the grocery store, often a French bread loaf from the bakery.
That was until I was grabbing Jimmy John's sandwiches for my daughter and I saw the sign for their "day old bread" for just 50 cents a loaf. My mind immediately went to my garlic bread and I just knew I needed to grab a few loaves and stick them in the freezer for the next time I made it.
Jimmy John's white bread is soft and chewy and flavorful - and I knew in my heart of hearts it would be perfect.
This garlic bread comes together quick - it's just a matter of mixing together the ingredients, spreading it liberally onto the bread and sticking it under the broiler for a few minutes.
It comes out golden, bubbly, dripping of butter - be sure to let it rest a moment before cutting into slices as it's hot! I often baking it on parchment paper on a baking sheet that way clean up is also a breeze.
Naturally, when I made this last week I served it alongside spaghetti - a kid favorite in this house. And also because who doesn't love to sop up any leftover red sauce with some cheesy bread?
This garlic bread is awesome straight out of the oven, but if you have leftovers the slices reheat well again in the oven or the air fryer.
Good luck with having any leftovers though.....
Make this soon and watch your family fight over the last slice!
If you make it, I'd love to see your photos - just tag me on Instagram at (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll be sure to share your creations!
